Official Interview Feature • Real Estate, Growth & Lifestyle Spotlight
In our exclusive Volume Nine spotlight, we sit down with Monty Meadows, a seasoned industry veteran who has seen the Las Vegas Valley from almost every angle imaginable. From his roots on a West Virginia farm to working for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and navigating the skies for years as a Southwest Airlines flight attendant, Monty eventually found his true calling on solid ground. Transitioning into real estate in 2016, he masterfully pivoted during shifting market conditions to become a top tier Sales Representative for D.R. Horton, the number one homebuilder in the country since 2002. Today, as the 2025 Salesperson of the Year and currently ranked number 50 for the company nationwide, we sit down with this dedicated family man to look closely at the rapid growth of the Valley, the grand opening of his newest development, and what it truly takes to settle down and live the good life in southern Nevada.
Benjamin: Tell me a little bit about who you are and what you do.
Monty Meadows: I am Monty Meadows, and I am a sales representative for D.R. Horton, the number one builder in the entire country since 2002. I was honored to be the 2025 Salesperson of the Year, and I am currently ranked number 50 for the company in the whole country.
Benjamin: How long have you been doing that?
Monty Meadows: It will be three years this October since I joined them.
Benjamin: You have been in real estate for a while before that, right?
Monty Meadows: Yes, I have. I started in real estate back in 2016 when I earned my loan officer's license, and then I got my real estate license in 2018. I did general real estate for about five and a half to six years before making the jump over to work directly for the builder.
Benjamin: What originally prompted that transition?
Monty Meadows: Things were going incredibly well in general real estate, but when the interest rates spiked, it hit my business hard and transaction volume fell off. However, I noticed that the builders still had fantastic buyer incentives, controlled interest rates, and consistent sales momentum. I saw an opening with D.R. Horton, went through the interview process, and accepted the position.
Benjamin: That's amazing. Our magazine is all about living the good life in Las Vegas. While many locals are born and raised here, many others migrate to the Valley. Where are you originally from, and what brought you out here?
Monty Meadows: I am originally from Moundsville, West Virginia, born and raised. My parents still live in the house on the farm where I grew up, surrounded by cows, horses, goats, and pigs in my younger years. After graduating from West Liberty University near Wheeling, West Virginia, with a degree in business administration and sports management, I moved to Pittsburgh. I spent two years there working for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2002, I started working as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, which took me to Baltimore, Maryland, for four years. Then, in 2008, Southwest opened a crew base right here in Las Vegas and offered incentives for crew members to voluntarily relocate. I decided to check out a new part of the country for a couple of years, and here I am, still in Vegas since 2008.
Benjamin: That is an incredible journey. Let's talk about family. I know you are a big family guy. Tell me a little bit about them.
Monty Meadows: I am incredibly proud of my family and cherish every minute I get with them. My wife and I have a blended family with four beautiful children: three boys and a daughter. The boys are twelve, eleven, and nine, and our daughter is seven, turning eight this October.
Benjamin: What kind of activities do you all enjoy doing together for fun around the Valley?
Monty Meadows: Playing pickleball is a huge one for us. We love heading out to Exploration Park in the evenings to play. I also take my oldest son to the gym; we have a solid workout routine built together, hitting the gym early in the mornings before school or in the evenings. Overall, we just love being outside. We regularly hike up at Mount Charleston to enjoy nature and escape the valley heat.
Benjamin: Speaking of that summer heat, do you love it or hate it?
Monty Meadows: At this point, I hate it! But it is what it is. We only deal with the extreme temperatures for a few months out of the year, so it's manageable. I can absolutely live with it.
Benjamin: Having lived here since 2008, you've watched the city transform. What is one thing you would change about Las Vegas today?
Monty Meadows: It might sound slightly ironic coming from someone in real estate, but the population is becoming a bit dense. Traffic takes noticeably longer to navigate from place to place compared to five or ten years ago. I'm not entirely sure if it's strictly a population surge or an infrastructure challenge, but I do wish getting around the city was as seamless as it used to be without waiting in heavy traffic.
Benjamin: Traffic has definitely changed, and local orange construction cones are a constant joke out here. Where do you think the toughest areas are right now?
Monty Meadows: There is quite a bit happening right around my brand new sales community near Charleston Boulevard and Decatur Boulevard. We literally just hosted our grand opening yesterday. Areas like Spring Mountain and Decatur can get pretty backed up. However, I am glad they finally cleared up the Interstate 15 construction. At my previous community, I had to commute all the way up I 15 to the Aliante area, which was an absolute nightmare during peak roadwork. It is running much smoother now.
Benjamin: Tell us more about this new community you just launched over at Charleston and Decatur.
Monty Meadows: We are incredibly excited about it. It is a beautiful development consisting of 31 premium townhomes. The timeline is fast tracked, meaning every single home in this community will close this September. I am operating as the sole representative on site. Prices start exceptionally well at $309,990 for our 1,309 square foot floor plan, which features 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. We also offer a spacious 1,410 square foot layout featuring 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and a functional upstairs loft priced at $334,990. On top of that, we have rolled out incredible financing incentives.
Benjamin: What do those financing incentives look like compared to the rest of the market? What really sets this community apart for buyers?
Monty Meadows: Right now, we are offering an exceptional 4.99% 30 year fixed interest rate across FHA, VA, and conventional loans. We also contribute $7,500 directly toward closing costs when buyers utilize our in house lender, DHI Mortgage. To honor those who serve, we offer an additional $1,500 credit for active military, veterans, teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters, and police officers. For buyers planning to stay in their home for just a few years, we feature a highly competitive 3.875% interest rate on a 5 year Adjustable Rate Mortgage, which presents a massive financial opportunity.
Benjamin: With your deep history in the local market, where do you see the next big development boom taking place in Vegas?
Monty Meadows: We have an absolutely amazing master planned community in Tule Springs in North Las Vegas. We have everything there from our townhomes to our $900k semi custom homes. The community has pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball, sand volleyball, lit soccer fields, dog parks, splash pads, playgrounds, and a 4 mile walking and biking trail around the Tule Springs Fossil Bed Preserve where they found mammoth tusks and saber tooth tiger fossils. We have 2 and a half years of construction left there and it is massive! Beyond that, I also strongly believe we are going to see massive expansion extending down the I 15 corridor, traveling past Inspirada toward the California state line.
Benjamin: Let's touch on the famous Las Vegas Strip. Do you hang out down there, or do you actively avoid it?
Monty Meadows: I try to avoid the Strip as much as humanly possible! There are definitely elements I enjoy, but we typically only head down there if we have tickets for a Vegas Golden Knights hockey game or a world class show. We'll grab dinner, enjoy the entertainment, and head straight back home. Once or twice a year, my wife and I will do a nice staycation, or we'll bring the kids down to stay somewhere fun on Fremont Street or the main Strip.
Benjamin: When you stay off the Strip, what is your go to local casino?
Monty Meadows: Without a doubt, Durango Casino & Resort. It is completely my speed, it features incredible restaurants, smells amazing without any heavy smoke, and it is beautifully close to home.
Benjamin: To wrap things up, with a big family, getting everyone to agree on dinner can be a challenge. What are the local spots that your entire family instantly agrees on without any arguments?
Monty Meadows: If we are talking sushi, hands down it's It’Sushi. The quality is always top tier. And when I am craving incredible Korean BBQ, GOONG Korean Bbq is my absolute favorite. You just can't beat those two spots.
Benjamin: Those sound like amazing recommendations! Monty, I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your story, your insights on valley growth, and your new community development with us.
Monty Meadows: Absolutely, Benjamin. Thank you so much for having me!
