From the Farm to the Valley

I'm Monty Meadows, a sales representative for D.R. Horton, which has been the number one builder in the country since 2002. I was honored to be the 2025 Salesperson of the Year, and I'm ranked number 50 in the company nationwide.

It'll be three years this October.

Yes. I started in 2016 when I got my loan officer license, then got my real estate license in 2018. I did general real estate for about five and a half to six years before going to work for the builder.

General real estate was going really well, but when interest rates spiked, it hit my business hard and my sales dropped off. I noticed the builders still had great buyer incentives, controlled rates, and steady sales. I saw an opening with D.R. Horton, went through the interviews, and took the job.

I'm from Moundsville, West Virginia, born and raised. My parents still live on the farm where I grew up, with cows, horses, goats, and pigs when I was younger. I graduated from West Liberty University near Wheeling with a degree in business administration and sports management, then moved to Pittsburgh and worked two years for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2002 I became a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, which took me to Baltimore for four years. In 2008 Southwest opened a crew base in Las Vegas and offered incentives to relocate. I figured I'd try a new part of the country for a couple of years, and I've been here ever since.

I'm very proud of my family. My wife and I have a blended family with four kids, three boys and a girl. The boys are twelve, eleven, and nine, and our daughter is seven, turning eight in October.

Pickleball is a big one. We love playing at Exploration Park in the evenings. I also take my oldest to the gym. We have a routine, early mornings before school or in the evenings. Mostly we just love being outside. We hike up at Mount Charleston a lot to get out of the heat.

At this point I hate it! But it is what it is. It's only a few months a year, so I can live with it.

It might sound funny coming from someone in real estate, but it's getting crowded. It takes a lot longer to get around than it did five or ten years ago. I'm not sure if it's population or roads, but I wish getting around was as easy as it used to be.

There's a lot going on around my new community near Charleston and Decatur. We just had our grand opening yesterday. Spring Mountain and Decatur can get backed up. I'm glad they finally finished the I-15 work, though. At my last community I had to drive up I-15 to Aliante, and that was a nightmare during the construction.

It's 31 townhomes, and every home is scheduled to close this September. I'm the only rep on site. Prices start at $309,990 for a 1,309 square foot plan with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. We also have a 1,410 square foot plan with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and an upstairs loft at $334,990.

Right now we're offering a 4.99% 30-year fixed rate on FHA, VA, and conventional loans, plus $7,500 toward closing costs when buyers use our in-house lender, DHI Mortgage. We also give an extra $1,500 to active military, veterans, teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters, and police officers. For buyers who plan to stay just a few years, we have a 3.875% rate on a 5-year adjustable rate mortgage.

We have a master planned community in Tule Springs in North Las Vegas, with everything from townhomes to $900,000 semi-custom homes. It has pickleball, tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, lit soccer fields, dog parks, splash pads, playgrounds, and a 4-mile trail around the Tule Springs Fossil Beds, where they found mammoth tusks and saber tooth tiger fossils. There are two and a half years of construction left, and it's big.

Beyond that, I think we'll see a lot of growth down the I-15 corridor, past Inspirada toward the California line.

I avoid it as much as I can! We usually only go down for a Golden Knights game or a show. Dinner, the show, and straight home. Once or twice a year my wife and I do a staycation, or we take the kids somewhere fun on Fremont Street or the Strip.

Durango, no question. It's my speed. Great restaurants, it smells good with no heavy smoke, and it's close to home.

For sushi, It'Sushi. The quality is always great. And for Korean barbecue, GOONG Korean BBQ is my favorite. You can't beat those two.
